WORD OF THE DAY:

(Matthew 24:44)

"You also must be ready therefore, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not expect Him."

MESSAGE OF THE DAY:

THE TRADITION OF THE ELDERS:

(Mark 7:1-8)

1. Now there gathered together to (Jesus) the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem, 

2. For they had seen that some of His disciples ate with common hands, that is, unwashed (with hands defiled and unhallowed, because they had not given them a ceremonial washing) - 

3. For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless (merely for ceremonial reasons) they wash their hands (diligently up to the elbow) with clenched fist, adhering (carefully  and faithfully) to the tradition of (practices and customs handed down to them by) their forefathers (to be observed). 

4. And when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they purify themselves; and there are many other traditions (oral, man-made laws handed down to them, which they observe faithfully and diligently such as) the washing of cups and wooden pitchers and widemouthed jugs and utensils of copper and beds- 

5. And the Pharisees and scribes kept asking (Jesus): "Why do Your disciples not order their way of living according to the tradition handed down by the forefathers (to be observed), but eat with hands unwashed, and ceremonially not purified?"

6. But He said to them: "Excellently and truly (so that there will be no room for blame) did Isaiah prophecy of you, the pretenders and hypocrites, as it stands written: 'These people (constantly) honour Me with their lips, but their hearts hold off and are far distant from Me.     

7. "'In vain (fruitlessly) and without profit) do they worship Me, ordering and teaching (to be obeyed) as doctrines, the commandments and precepts of men.'

8. "You disregard and give up, and ask to depart from you the commandments of God, and cling to the tradition of men (keeping it carefully and faithfully).

"Daarom moet julle ook gereed wees, want die Seun van die Mens kom op 'n uur dat julle dit nie verwag nie."

DIE OORLEWERING VAN DIE OU MENSE:

(Markus 7:1-8)

1. En die Fariseërs en sommige van die skrifgeleerdes wat van Jerusalem gekom het, het by Hom saamgekom;

2. En toe hulle sommige van Sy dissipels met onrein, dit is met ongewaste hande sien brood eet, het hulle dit afgekeur.  

3. Want die Fariseërs en al die Jode eet nie as hulle nie deeglik die hande gewas het nie, omdat hulle vashou aan die oorlewering van die ou mense.   

4. En wanneer hulle van die mark kom, eet hulle nie as hulle nie gewas het nie; en baie ander dinge is daar wat hulle aangeneem het om te onderhou: die wassery van bekers en kanne en kopergoed en bedde. 

5. Daarop stel die Fariseërs en skrifgeleerdes Hom die vraag: "Waarom wandel U dissipels nie ooreenkomstig die oorlewering van die ou mense nie, maar eet brood met ongewaste hande?"

6. En Hy antwoord en sê vir hulle: "Tereg het Jesaja oor julle, geveinsdes, geprofeteer soos geskrywe is: 'Hierdie volk eer my met die lippe, maar hulle hart is ver van My af.  

7. "'Maar tevergeefs vereer hulle My deur leringe te leer, wat gebooie van mense is.'

8. "Want terwyl julle die gebod van God nalaat, hou julle aan die oorlewering van mense vas: die wassery van kanne en bekers, en ander dergelike dinge van dieselfde aard, doen julle baie."

(God willing and by His marvellous grace and mercy, I will share the Word with you as often as I possibly can.
