WHERE CAN WE FLEE FROM THE PRESENCE OF GOD?

[Jonah 1:6-9]

6. So the captain came and said to him: "What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call upon your God! Perhaps your God will give a thought to us, so that we shall not perish." 

7. And they each said to one another: "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us." So they cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. 

8. Then they said to him: "Tell us, we pray you, on whose account has this evil come upon us? What is your occupation? Where did you come from? And what is your country and nationality?"

9. And he said to them: "I am a Hebrew, and I (reverently) fear and worship the Lord, the God of heaven, Who made the sea and the dry land."

Na vele terugslae sal ek poog om voort te gaan met die hulp van God en Sy nimmer-eindigende genade en barmhartigheid.

6. Daarop kom die skeepskaptein na hom toe aan en sê vir hom: "Wat makeer jou dat jy so vas slaap? Staan op, roep tot jou God! Miskien sal die God aan ons dink, sodat ons nie vergaan nie."

7. Hulle sê toe vir mekaar: "Kom en laat ons loot; dan sal ons weet om wie se ontwil hierdie ramp ons getref het." En hulle het geloot, en die lot het op Jona geval. 

8. En hulle sê vir hom: "Vertel ons tog om wie se ontwil hierdie ramp ons getref het? Wat is jou nering? En waar kom jy vandaan? Wat is jou geboorteland, en uit watter volk is jy?"

9. En hy. antwoord hulle: "Ek is 'n Hebreër, en ek vrees die Here, die God van die hemel, wat die see en die droë land gemaak het."
